Ei Sei/Ying Zheng a.k.a. Qin Shi Huang

Ei Sei from Kingdom Guidebook 2

Japanese/Chinese: 嬴政

Japanese Pronunciation: Ei Sei

Chinese Pronunciation: Ying Zheng

As we all might know, he is the future Qin Shi Huang, the 31st king of the state of Qin and the man who will unite China and become the first emperor.

2.Activities in History

Since there are tons of information on him, I will not be writing much about him. You can refer to his wikipedia page(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qin_Shi_Huang) for more information. Most of the events in the manga were also quoted from ShiJi: Annals of Qin Shi Huang. If there is any specific information you are interested to know and not found online, do feel free to ask .

Brief summary: Ying Zheng was born in the enemy state of Zhao. He was then brought back to Qin and made the emperor of Qin after his father, King ZhuangXiang, died 3 years after ascending the throne. After Ying Zheng ascended the throne, he was in a power struggle with Lu BuWei, the man who “bought” the throne for Ying Zheng’s father and now controls the court. Due to Lu BuWei’s past relationship with Zheng’s mother, Zhao Ji, he had to satisfy her desires and this became a problem for him in his struggle for power with Zheng. To solve this problem, he smuggled a man with a huge penis, Lao Ai, into the court as an eunuch and used him to satisfy Zhao Ji’s desire. Lao Ai then slowly gathered power and was named Count ChangXin. With both Lao Ai and Lu BuWei’s power, they attempted a coup which ended up as a failure. Lao Ai was executed and Lu BuWei was exiled and later committed suicide. With this, the internal power struggle ended and Zheng now aims to unite China. Soon, the other states fell one by one and China was united in 221BC.

3.Interesting Stuff

I am sure you guys can find plenty of information on him around the net though most of them portrayed a negative image of him. The author did mention that he plans to portrait a different image of Ying Zheng as opposed to history. This was also hinted in the manga when Wang Yi/Ouki gave Zheng the last message from his great-grandfather, King Zhao. Anyway, most of the stuff we have today were taken from ShiJi which was written in the Han dynasty, a dynasty that came immediately after the Qin dynasty, so there might be some sort of propaganda within it.
